Seedance 2.5 Draft video generation guide

Review a 480p preview, then use its Draft task ID to generate a 1080p final video.

Draft mode lets you check the scene, camera movement, and subject motion before producing a final video. The workflow uses the existing create and retrieve APIs: create a 480p preview, review it, then reference its task ID to create a 1080p final video.

Workflow

Choose one format and complete the following four steps. Replace MODEL_ID with a Seedance 2.5 model available to your API key, and replace the key and task ID placeholders with your own values. Both creation requests must use the same model and account.

Create a Draft preview

Submit a prompt or reference media through the platform create API and set draft: true and resolution: "480p". Save the returned task_id (equivalent to id) as PLATFORM_DRAFT_TASK_ID for polling the preview.

Retrieve and review the preview

Query with the platform task ID and use raw=true to read the native task. If status is queued/running, wait and query again. On success, preview content.video_url and save the native response's id as DRAFT_TASK_ID.

The second stage requires the native Draft ID, DRAFT_TASK_ID; do not substitute the platform polling ID. Stop polling if the task fails, is cancelled, or expires, and read the error information. Continue only when the preview is succeeded.

Create the final video from the preview

After reviewing the preview, use the same MODEL_ID and reference the native Draft ID through content.draft_task.id. Set the resolution to 1080p. Do not resubmit automatically inherited parameters such as the prompt, media, or duration.

Save the new platform task ID returned by this request as PLATFORM_FINAL_TASK_ID. The preview and final video are separate tasks with different IDs.

Retrieve and save the final video

Query with the new task ID. On success, download the final video from content.video_url in the native response. draft is false, and draft_task_id identifies the preview used.

If you omit raw=true and use the default platform wrapper, read data.status and the result URL as described in the platform retrieve API. Do not apply native response field paths directly to the wrapper.

Validity and billing

The Draft task ID is valid for seven days from created_at. After expiry, it cannot be used to generate a final video.
The preview and final video are separate generation tasks and are billed separately. The preview is billed as a 480p generation; the final video is billed according to the target resolution and input conditions.
Result video URLs are valid for 24 hours and support up to 100 downloads. Download or transfer the files promptly.
This guide applies to Seedance 2.5, not Seedance 2.0.
